The CSS system (Sistema Campus Satellitare del Salento) relies on the use of one or more satellites to distribute contents to a hypothetically unlimited number of receiving stations, distributed across a very wide geographic area.

The main advantages provided by this technology are:
• largeness of the geographic area covered
• fixed costs of transmission even at increasing numbers of
receiving stations
• high scalability level
• no limits of destination accessibility

The teacher/speaker can make his lesson/speech in any of the transmitting/receiving rooms of the CSS, by using his own laptop computer or by copying his lesson from any mass storage device. An instant messaging connection, active during the lesson, permits the students to send questions or comments to the teacher/speaker.

The CSS system allows also the deferred download through Internet, at any time, of previous lessons/events, by contacting a specifically developed web-based event repository service.
